The whole process was pretty standard and felt like a normal chat. They asked basic questions that were totally expected. It was a simple experience, and I felt like they really got me and what I bring to the table.

I interviewed with the hiring manager, who initially seemed very friendly and focused on me as an individual. However, she then asked me a lot of challenging questions, including how I cope with stress and various hypothetical situations. For example, she asked what I would do if I had a social commitment scheduled for later that evening but a work emergency arose. The nature of these questions made the job sound unpleasant, so I guess I'm fortunate to have avoided it. The hiring manager didn't appear very interested in my resume or academic background. She mentioned she'd follow up soon but never did. After a month, I sent an email, and she replied that she was still interviewing candidates and would have information for me the following week. She never contacted me again, and it's now been nearly two months. It's highly unprofessional not to send a rejection email, especially after I invested my time in the position.

Behavioral Technical

I was contacted by a current legal assistant a week or two after applying to set up an interview. I was interviewed by 3 people over the phone, likely lawyers. They asked about my previous experience and relevant skills. Initially, it was conversational, but it became more challenging with situational questions that were hard to answer quickly with 3 people waiting. After the questions, I was supposed to speak with a current legal assistant to learn about her experience and ask questions. The transfer failed, so I called back myself and reached her. It felt like she was interviewing me too, so I tried to make a good impression. I learned the legal assistant role is demanding with many simultaneous tasks, but only 10-20% are administrative. When I asked about the next steps, she said to call back in a week or two if I didn't hear from them. I called back about a week later and was told they would have someone contact me, but I never received a call back.

  • What would you do if you arrived at the office with 15 unread emails, a lawyer needed something written and edited immediately, someone needed the printer fixed, and you had an interview in 2 hours? How would you prioritize these tasks?
  • How would you handle a situation where you need to compile evidence and submit a report by the end of the night, but you have dinner plans, and a coworker has some of the evidence that needs to be included seamlessly in the report?
