First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SanDisk.
Product Engineer
I gave my resume to a recruiter at school. A few weeks later, I got an email to set up a phone interview. It was with the recruiter and they asked really basic questions about my resume and projects. They asked about a specific project – the challenges I faced, how I would improve it, etc. They invited me to an onsite interview right after my phone interview. At the onsite, I met with 4 people: some engineers, managers, and my potential supervisor. It wasn't too technical in my opinion. The interviewers asked about my projects, interests, and some situational questions. A recruiter also did some typical HR stuff. I got to chat with the supervisor, and she was really nice so I really wanted the job. A few weeks after, I got a call with my offer.
- An engineer asked me about CS, which I wasn't ready for. She said it was just for fun and to see my experience level, and that it didn't matter if I didn't know much.
- Tell me about your experience.
Systems Design Engineer
I was contacted by a recruiter, but there was no initial phone screening. The recruiter communicated well and sent over the interview plan and a list of people I would meet. However, during the interviews, information was very vague. Only one person, who wasn't even on the team, tried to explain the position. Ultimately, the hiring manager decided not to proceed before lunch, as they weren't going to extend an offer. I wouldn't have accepted it anyway due to the poor communication I experienced throughout the process.
- Were there vague questions focusing on things outside my experience?
- Were technical questions asked in an exam-like format (RCG type)?
- Were the questions inappropriate for someone with 20 years of experience?
Packaging Engineer
The hiring process was smooth and fast, thanks to HR and the hiring manager. I had three phone interviews and then an on-site interview that lasted 5 hours. During the on-site, I met with three directors, a senior director, the VP, a senior manager, and a staff engineer. I also had lunch with a director. There was a standard HR interview with behavioral questions, and I also gave a 30-minute presentation about one of my projects.
- Can you describe electronic package manufacturing processes in detail?
- What is your understanding of solder reliability?
- Could you elaborate on wire bonding techniques?
