It was a phone screen first, then they flew me out for the on-site. The on-site included a tour and a 1-hour technical panel presentation. After that, we had lunch and then 1:1s with leadership and other technical people. It was very structured, like you'd expect.

I went through 2 virtual team and phone screens, followed by a 30-minute interview. It was mostly behavioral, with the only technical part being when I had to talk about the technical experience on my resume. An HR person and a technical engineer were there for the interview.

So I had two phone screens first with different hiring managers from related departments. Then the main interview was in person and lasted about 6-7 hours. It started with a hiring manager interview from a different department. After that, I did an hour-long presentation on my graduate research. Then came a 1-hour panel interview with about 4 interviewers, followed by a bunch of 1:1s. They also included a short tour of the lab and a lunch interview. This whole thing felt pretty standard for engineers fresh out of grad school applying to national labs. I got the rejection call within their projected timeframe, though I was bummed the hiring manager couldn't give me any feedback due to some company policy.
