I applied for a student assistant role in the marketing & communications area at a college within SJSU. The whole thing wrapped up in under a week, which was pretty quick. I applied one day and got a call for an interview the very next day. I had a first-round chat over Zoom, and then a final in-person meeting a few days after that. My manager and supervisor were really nice and made me feel at ease, and the whole vibe was just positive and friendly. I ended up getting the job offer about one to two weeks later.

I dropped off my resume at one of the departments, and the Supervisor was impressed by my previous work. She contacted her associate and set up an interview for me that very same day. Two people conducted the interview, which was based on my resume and lasted about 20 minutes.

It took me about a month to complete the interview process. I found the opening on the Handshake portal and was contacted by a faculty member. I had a personal interview where they asked about my availability and some basic HR questions. It seems pretty tough to land a job like this without having a reference.
