First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at San Joaquin Delta College.
Writing Tutor
The interview was pretty laid-back. I had a one-on-one chat with the person in charge of instructional support at the center. They asked me questions that were more about my personality. It really felt more like a chat than a formal interview, which definitely helped me relax!
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Clerical Worker
The team was almost 30 minutes late for the interview. The recruiter called me by the wrong name. It was stressful because they required a 15-minute timed typed assessment before the interview. One person didn't smile and looked at me strangely the entire time. It was a horrible experience.
- How do you navigate the website?
Professor
I applied the same day the posting closed and heard back from HR about 3 weeks later for a zoom interview. I had a week to prepare for the interview. The interview was with the selection committee and included a 20-minute teaching demo on a given topic. HR let me know a week after the interview that I didn't make it to the next stage. It was good practice though, and a big accomplishment for me as it was my first time interviewing for a full-time position and getting an interview.
- Can you discuss your teaching and professional background?
- What steps have you taken to enhance your understanding of diversity?
Assistant Professor
They questioned my knowledge of my Ph.D. material and education instead of my skillset. I had to give a demo talk on information that wouldn't be taught in a classroom. They also asked about topics not in the job description and outside the position's expertise. I couldn't ask questions at the end. It felt like a waste of time.
- Can you tell me the advantages of using ground penetrating radar?
