The interview was conducted in a round robin format with four interviewers asking in-depth questions. It was pretty much like other professional interviews I've had. One interviewer was my direct supervisor, and the others were from different departments or teams.

The process started with an HR pre-screen where they asked basic, non-technical questions about my work history, reasons for leaving previous jobs, and what I'm looking for in a new role. The next interview was very in-depth and technical. They had me detail my past positions with specific examples of my tasks and then presented me with hypothetical workplace scenarios and problem-solving questions, asking for my approach and the rationale behind it. This interview was significantly more challenging than the one for the job I ultimately accepted.

I put in my application on July 28, 2014, and then had an interview on August 5, 2014. The interview was supposed to be 30 minutes but ended up being about 2 hours long. It was a really enjoyable interview. They asked a lot of questions and gave me many compliments on my background. I had to agree to a background check and a reference check. Today, I completed the final steps of fingerprinting and having my photo taken. I'm not sure if they'll make me an offer yet, but I'm hopeful because I'm prior military and have had fingerprints and security clearances before. Now I'm just waiting to see if they offer me a substitute position.

I applied for a position with two openings and an immediate start date. After applying, there was no follow-up or updates. The application requires submitting employment references upfront, which then receive an automated email asking to complete a reference. While I understand wanting to be thorough, I think references should be contacted after the candidate has completed interviews, to avoid wasting anyone's time, especially in this job market.
