Innovation Manager
I went through a 2 round process where I had an interview and a written research exercise. The exercise tested my creativity and ability to spot business/innovation opportunities. I passed both rounds and was supposed to present to the innovation team for the final round. But a week before the final round, they told me they were no longer hiring for that role. It seemed like they didn't really have clarity on their own needs or hiring plans.
- What's your background and experience in technology innovation and market research?
- In the written exercise, identify a sector Samsung is active in and the driving tech and market trends providing new business opportunities.
- Propose new product and service innovations to help Samsung enter and lead in these opportunity areas.
UX Researcher
I had a joint interview with the UX Director and UX Researcher, and then another interview with an Analyst and Product designer. The first meeting was good. The Analyst was awful - really stiff and not friendly. She didn't understand her own questions and taunted me that my case study was too long and her Product director wouldn't care about the details, laughing rudely. This was awful, especially since we only had 10 minutes. The Product designer was great, though. The UX team, except for the Analyst, seemed good. But the pay was too low for NYC and the job funding wasn't guaranteed.
- Can you present one of your case studies?
Program Manager
The hiring process was really quick. I first spoke with my direct manager, who was in Israel at the time, though he's based in the US. He had clearly reviewed my LinkedIn profile beforehand. We had a very open discussion where he fully explained the role and its place within SNEXT. Immediately after, I got a call from the recruiter who set up three more conversations with different team members I'd be working with. Throughout this whole time, I was kept informed about the process in a very open and transparent way.
- Tell me about how you handle conflicts.
- How do you manage working with teams that are across different sites, time zones, and disciplines?
Sales
The process was really unprofessional. I was first contacted by someone from Samsung Next, but then got passed to a recruiter who didn't seem to know anything about the company or product. The weirdest part was that the interview wasn't even for Samsung Next! Turns out I was tricked into interviewing for some new startup that's apparently funded by Samsung. I wouldn't bother talking to them unless you want to waste your time.
- What was your past performance against quota?
- Are you familiar with Samsung Next?
