Administrative Assistant
The interview process was very straightforward and easy-going, not too formal. It went in-depth with duties and responsibilities. Pay is straightforward as well. Be prepared for general interview questions, and also for questions that will make you stand out.
- What makes you the best candidate for this position?
Assistant Professor
I had a 5 member panel who initially introduced themselves during the Zoom meeting. I had introduced myself in return without them asking and a couple of members in the panel seemed really annoyed I had introduced myself without their request. Subsequently, one of the agitated panel members remained annoyed throughout the entire short interview period and she had a small dog run in next to her and she was looking at her dog while I was giving my answer. Similarly, none of the other panel members seemed interested in what I was stating and they were clicking their mouse or looking at other materials on their screens. They ended up hiring an adjunct faculty member who was working with the department for a long period of time and his expertise did not match the job description. It was one of the most disrespectful interviews I had ever given. A waste of my time.
- Regarding teaching MS level students, what is your expertise level in teaching/advising MS students?
Librarian
The interview took place at the main Huntsville, Texas campus. It was an okay interview. There is definitely classism there, between those who have higher degrees than others. Work experience doesn't count - only your degree does. It is a nice campus with a lot of history - very hilly though. You will definitely get in shape walking up those hills!
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
Admissions Counselor
First, you're asked to create plans of action/complete surveys about how to get students interested in SHSU before they even interview you. Then, there's a phone interview, a Skype interview, and a final onboarding interview. If you don't get the onboarding interview, you'll get a line letter.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a tough client.
- What are three words that describe you?
- What are your three greatest strengths?
