First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sam Ash.
Sales Specialist
I spoke with the General Manager and Sales Manager. They looked at my resume and asked me to talk more about each of my past jobs. They also asked about the best and worst parts of those jobs.
- What guitars do you own?
Customer Service Associate
I met with both the store managers and we talked about my goals and what I wanted to achieve long-term. The managers told me about the company's history and what my job would entail. We also discussed opportunities for growth within the company. They asked me some basic questions to gauge my interpersonal skills. Overall, it was a very relaxed interview, and I was offered the job right then and there. The managers turned out to be fantastic people I'll always remember.
- What's your approach to dealing with a dissatisfied customer?
Instructor
I was called and then invited for an interview with the studio manager. After that, I had a meeting and interview with the store manager. It was more of a discussion, with no real questions asked. It felt more like I was interviewing them. The pay isn't great, and they need highly qualified and reputable instructors, so you have a lot of leverage. However, the corporate pay policy is fixed and not comparable to what a professional standalone music school would offer.

Sales Associate
The hiring process was a bit of a chase with lots of phone tag, but eventually, I got called into their office for what felt like an interrogation. The sales manager went over company policies, and then the GM quizzed me about pro audio. They weren't too keen on the fact that I had some knowledge in multiple departments, which would have been useful for covering shifts, but they were really looking for someone totally dedicated to just one area.
