Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Saks Fifth Avenue Stores (SFA).
Intern
I applied through my university and got an interview at their local store. It was a 2-hour interview with two people: one recruiter and one of their executives. They asked a lot of behavioral questions and also about current styles and trends. The whole experience felt pretty impersonal, though.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a challenge?
- What do you consider your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- Could you identify three trends you're observing on campus?
Intern
I interviewed on campus with two employees. It was a pretty typical behavioral interview, but the interviewers seemed inexperienced, which made it tougher. They were nice, but sometimes asked confusing questions or forgot what they were asking. They said they'd get back within a few days, but never followed up to let me know I wasn't selected.
- What makes you want to work in retail?
- Why are you interested in Saks?
Intern
A school career counselor passed my resume to HR. My first step was a brief and easy phone interview where I discussed my studies and previous internships and my interest in Saks, mentioning I could earn school credit. Afterward, I was invited for an in-person interview with the head of HR, and I also met the buyer I'd be interning with.
- Can you tell me about your favorite designers?
