First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Saint Thomas Health.
Registered Nurse
Walked into HR, introduced myself, and asked about available positions. Was directed to the ER manager where I gave my 30-second story/pitch. Was told to come back tomorrow for a formal interview. Heads up for new RN's, RN interviews are a different ballgame if you have previous work experience, you are already qualified for the job based on your education, what you are presenting is your ability to fit into a team atmosphere, your ability to learn and your willingness to do whatever it takes to be a great RN. All RN's should make sure to have something relevant on your resume that shows initiative, online certifications, outside credentials, be a lifetime achiever.
- What made you decide to apply to this position?
- Describe a time you worked in a challenging environment and explain how you managed it.
Phlebotomist
The interview itself was quick and easy, but the overall hiring process was quite lengthy. This was due to the out-of-state management company handling various verifications, including sending emails to confirm important documents for background checks, drug screens, past employment history, certification, and education verification.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
Nurse Resident
After submitting your online application, you'll likely get a call a few weeks later for a phone interview. If you pass that, you'll move on to a face-to-face interview. If that goes well, you'll be invited to the Nurse Residency Showcase where you'll get to meet different nurse managers.
- What makes you want to work at Saint Thomas?
Registered Nurse
I met with the unit's nurse manager and assistant nurse manager. They showed me around the unit and introduced me to some of the staff. I also had an interview with a peer nurse who has been on the unit for a while. Overall, it was a really positive interview experience.
