First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sainsbury's Bank.
Finance Manager
It was a straightforward process. They used the STAR method. There were two interview rounds: one with the recruiter and another with the hiring manager, followed by an offer. Feedback usually came within two weeks. The whole experience was very positive, and the employees were great.
- Could you introduce yourself and share an experience related to a specific task or activity?

I put in my application online, and that part took about two weeks. Then I had an online interview where they asked me some basic admin stuff and then some questions about customer service, like, "What do you know about Sainsbury's? Why do I want the job? "Tell me a time you did your best. How did you help a customer? What makes a good customer transaction, and what makes a lousy customer transaction? "
- What defines a positive customer interaction?

I had a short and simple telephone interview, which wasn't much of an interview really. Then I had a face-to-face interview scheduled two weeks later. This interview didn't go well when they found out I was still at university. It felt like they knew I wouldn't be available and started asking about my flexibility and how they would need me for 8-9 hours every day. My friend who works at a different Sainsbury's bank was confused by this. I realised it just wasn't meant to be. The employers probably just had their own preferences and were looking for someone with previous experience in Travel money, but they offered 3 months training though. I'm pretty sure I was skilled enough for the role. But I guess it was my bad luck this time.
- Besides customer service, what other duties do you foresee yourself performing?
- Can you describe your availability and commitment to working 8-9 hours daily?
- Do you have prior experience working with travel money?

I applied online and the next day I got an email to call HR and set up an interview. When I got to the interview, they made me feel comfortable. I had to do a basic math test and a currency exchange test, and I had half an hour for it. It's super important to get these right. Then, I was asked a lot of competency questions. Make sure you ask some questions back too. It's good to show you're interested in the job and mention why you want to work for Sainsburys Bank. We talked about the hours, the rota, my uniform size, holidays, and stuff like that. Overall, it was a good experience. If you're well prepared and do some research on Sainsbury's, you should be fine.
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with an angry customer and give an example?
- Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?
- Describe a situation where you went above and beyond for a customer.
