First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Saginaw Valley State University.
Network Engineer
I was interviewed by a team of up to 5-6 people. The first interview was pretty standard, and the second one had technical questions. Then I had a third interview with the IT director. The hiring process was slow.
- What makes you want to work for SVSU?
Communications Specialist
I first applied online and sent in my resume. About two weeks later, I got a call to set up a phone interview with a hiring committee. That call lasted about 30 minutes, and they asked me general questions and some that were specific to the job duties. Then, they flew me to campus and put me up in a hotel for the night. The next day was a long one, with a bunch of group and one-on-one interviews with people from around the campus. It all wrapped up with a casual chat with the hiring manager.
- What draws you to a career in higher education?
- What motivates you to pursue employment within an academic environment?
Student Wellness Coordinator
I had a Skype interview first, then a 4-hour-long interview session. This session included several different types of interviews like one-on-one, group, and a presentation. We also had lunch together, which served as another type of interview. It was a really great experience that gave me a good sense of the work culture and environment.
- What modifications would you propose for the program?
Resident Assistant
The process was pretty simple and the questions were easy. You have the group interview, then a personal interview with all the Resident Directors. After that, you will either be selected as an RA or be on the alternate list.
