I interviewed with the VP and HR rep, who was on Zoom. They asked a lot of questions. I brought up career growth, and they didn't seem to like that. This role is for someone who doesn't want to advance. They do give raises though.

This interview isn't skill-based. Dress in a way that's above business casual. Smile, make the interviewer feel more intelligent than you, and stroke their ego. Don't be intimidated and maintain eye contact. Make sure you're up-to-date on new welding processes.

I got a phone call about a week after I applied online. It was kind of loud in the background, so it was a little hard to hear, but I managed. I answered some questions and then got asked to come in for an in-person interview later that week. The person I spoke to on the phone was actually on a video call with someone else in the office. They were both interviewing me. The questions were pretty standard, but the HR person seemed to doubt my qualifications right in the middle of the interview, which was a bit surprising. They mentioned that the company is very critical and gives upfront feedback, which I guess could be a test to see how you handle it. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I felt a distinct attitude from them. When I asked what was important to know that we hadn't covered, the interviewer talked about the company's core values, saying they are 'conservative' and 'not one of those liberal places.' They also mentioned a strict dress code and attendance policy, implying I might be unprofessional or late, even though I was dressed professionally and arrived early. This was a bit of a bummer, especially since they used the conservative vs. liberal framing, which felt intentional. It was also off-putting as a gay individual. For other female candidates, they suggested wearing a black dress, as that's what most women in the office wear. I wore pants, and I'm not sure if that was a mistake. They are supposed to call later this week, but I'm not sure I want the job anymore.

My experience at SCE was really good. The in-person interview went deeper into topics covered in the phone interview. From the start, it was clear SCE invests in its employees. If you show up, work hard, and put in the effort, you can build a career you'll be proud of. You have opportunities to earn more money early on, and the employer-sponsored health insurance is fantastic! I strongly recommend SCE.
