The interview process at SafeGraph has been one of my favorites to date. It's transparent, efficient, considerate, and moves pretty quickly. You get a real picture of the organization and of your future colleagues. A recruiter reached out to me on AngelList. She was very communicative and transparent about why she thought I would be a good addition to the company and pushed me for roles we thought were a good fit. I initially had 5 interviews for a customer marketing role that later was deprioritized. The VP of marketing personally set time aside to explain why an offer couldn't be extended. My recruiter was a champion on my behalf during the entire process. She worked to find other roles that could be a good entryway into the company. Eventually, we found one that was a great fit for my background. She's one of my favorite recruiters now. Since I already went through multiple interviews, they shortened my second round so I wouldn't have to go through the process all over again. That interview process took about 3 weeks and they asked for 2 references. The interview process is very telling of the culture so if you enjoy it and enjoy the people you meet during the process, then you'll love SafeGraph.

The whole process was super quick, like, I'd hear back about the next step within 24 hours of finishing the previous one. They laid out the whole thing for me upfront. It was so fast that I was already juggling interviews with five other places, and SafeGraph still managed to get me an offer before any of those other companies finished their cycles. What really set SafeGraph apart was the quality of the people I talked to – everyone was super smart and genuinely nice. Even after I got the offer, not when I accepted, but just when it was extended, I got emails from like 10 SafeGraph employees saying congrats. That really sealed the deal for me, felt like the right place.

I was contacted on LinkedIn about my experience being a good fit for the Solutions Engineer role and scheduled a call. The video call with the interviewer gave me the impression they were not engaged and seemed unprepared, almost as if they had just woken up. Despite the call lasting about 5 minutes, I questioned why I was there as the interviewer struggled to find things to say and didn't ask any technical questions. They only inquired about my current responsibilities, which are similar to the role I applied for. The recruiter seemed to lack knowledge about the technology and the company. Although I received a 'not a good fit' email, which I appreciated over being ignored, it felt like a mutual decision. Good luck to Safegraph, but I suggest hiring interviewers who understand the roles and train them to show some interest when taking up candidates' time.

The interview process wasn't too tough. The team seemed really good and eager to win. I got a verbal offer, and the CEO wanted to chat. I had some questions for the senior execs, but they couldn't answer them, so they suggested I ask the CEO. The questions were about why Google banned SafeGraph from their app store and how data privacy issues could potentially sink the company's mission if Apple did the same on their App Store. Overall, I liked the team but not the CEO. From a sales leader's perspective, it was interesting that this CEO apparently dislikes marketers, viewing them as useless based on a past presentation. From a sales point of view, this implies we'd have to handle the entire sales cycle, from lead generation to closing. I'm fortunate I didn't end up here, especially considering SafeGraph is currently facing a lot of negative press due to selling data from abortion clinics. Personally, I can't work for a leader who seems to lack a moral compass.
