Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sacramento Public Library.
Systems Supervisor
It was a panel interview with a few supervisors, and they asked a lot of long, difficult questions. Some questions were really relevant to libraries, but others seemed more general.
- Can you share an instance where you managed a challenging employee situation?
Librarian
For my first interview, I met with three managers. They asked me some basic questions, and then I had to do a 10-minute story time presentation. The whole thing was supposed to be 45 minutes, but it got cut short because they had another person waiting for an interview.
- Can you tell me about some authors or illustrators you really like?
Library Assistant
I got an interview about a month after applying. Then, I got the offer about 2 weeks after the interview. They asked me to pick my top 5 branch preferences. I think I ended up 5th in line for the panel interview, since I got my second choice.
- How would you handle a situation where teenagers are being loud in the teen room and a patron has already complained?
