First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sacramento Chinese Community Service Center.
Program Manager
There were two interviews, the first one was with the org team and the second one was with the placement (school) staff. The people I interacted with were great, very down to earth and focused on making positive change. It was mostly a personality and aptitude-based interview. They mentioned that the skills needed for the role can be acquired later, but leadership and team experience, particularly with youth, are highly valued.
- Describe how you would manage a scenario where staff express dissatisfaction with existing conditions alongside the introduction of a new mandate.
Assistant Program Manager
The interview was really straightforward, asking directly about my experience. They were upfront about their expectations. I heard back quickly after applying, but it took a bit for them to respond post-interview.
- Have you led teams before?
Youth Employment Specialist
My interview was pretty laid back. I already knew the Program Manager, so they just talked me through the job. The actual interview part was just situational questions about how I would work with young people.
- What resources could you offer a youth requiring [specific support], and how would you deliver them?
Team Leader
The interview process was pretty straightforward. If you enjoy interacting with children and engaging them in activities, the interview itself is quite easy. The main focus is on your motivation for working with kids and what you aim for them to gain from their time with you. Having experience with games, videos, arts and crafts, and tutoring is a definite plus. It was a pleasant interview, after which you'll need to complete a hiring packet, which might take a day or several days to finish. Overall, it's a relaxed interview experience.
- What is your desired takeaway for children at the end of the day?
- What motivates you to work with children?
- Are you involved in any gaming or sports activities?
