The recruiter strung me along for months, with long gaps of silence, then they'd reach out to see if I was still interested, then silence again. They skipped the interview and sent me an unpaid test. The feedback introduced some errors and wrongly marked valid corrections as mistakes. This came with a rude rejection. After wasting so much time, I didn't bother asking for clarification. The job still seems unfilled.

So, before even getting an interview, I had to do two tests. The first one was translating about 500 words and answering some questions about translation processes and Trados. The second test, which was on the same day as the interview, was a timed 1-hour translation of about 500 words. Honestly, that was a bit much for an hour, especially since it was marketing content and needed transcreation, which you barely have time for. The interview itself had two people, one was quiet, and the other asked me to talk about myself. That was literally the only question. They then spent a lot of time explaining the job, which was informative but felt more like a presentation than an interview with back-and-forth. After all that, no rejection email, and my follow-up emails to the recruiters were ignored. I can handle rejection, but at least let me know, acknowledge the time and effort.

Coding Technical Presentation

I was in a bit of a rush finding a new job, so things moved pretty quickly. They started me off with a programming task to do at home. After they checked out my solution, I got invited to an interview. The hiring manager and team lead were cool and set up a Skype call instead of making me come into the office. The call was pretty chill and productive. I even hit up the automation team lead later via email with some questions, and they got back to me even on the weekend. The only thing was they gave me just 4 days to decide on the offer, which felt a bit rushed, but I guess it made sense since I was supposed to start the next week. The pay wasn't great, and it was for a set number of hours with a chance to extend later.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • A short but interesting programming challenge, combining basic coding skills and logical / mathematical thinking, was given. I was given one week to solve it and it took me an hour or two. Even though my solution wasn't the best, I was invited to an interview where I explained it and my thought process.
