First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rustic Pathways.
Country Director
Had a Skype interview with the current person in the role who explained the job, why they were hiring, and asked me questions. I also asked them questions. The whole chat was about 45 minutes. They mentioned they needed to hire fast and I'd hear back in a week, but after that initial interview, I never got a response even though I emailed a few times. It's fine if I didn't get it, but I feel like responding to candidates is just basic manners.
- Can you tell me about a time you failed and how you adjusted your strategy afterward?
Program Leader
After applying online and answering questions about your professional background, you'll have an HR interview. This interview will assess your ability to solve cases as a tour leader and how you'd react under pressure as a tour guide. They'll also explain the season's dynamics, group management, and salary details.
- What would be your response if a student were experiencing an anxiety attack?
- Describe how you would handle hypothetical scenarios as a tour leader.
- How do you typically perform under pressure when working as a tour guide?
Trip Leader
I went through three video interviews for the Trip Leader role. For one of the interviews, I had to prepare and deliver a class on a topic I chose. The first two interviews were with people who seemed nice and were respectful. The third interviewer, however, was kind of rude and didn't seem interested, like he didn't want to be there. I'm not sure why, maybe we just didn't connect.
- How would you deal with those "Wince Moments" they mentioned, which are basically awkward situations you'll probably face?
Communications Coordinator
I think there were two interviews and a written test. First was with the marketing team, the second was with the county director for where I'd be placed. The second interview was more about judging your travel skills and comfort in the country, plus your practical abilities with students and programs.
- How would you handle issues with staying connected when you're traveling?
