Technical Support Engineer
The interview process felt like a fun ride. The interviewers were friendly and it was more of a casual discussion than a strict technical interview. However, the manager round felt a bit untrustworthy as the promises and vision they shared weren't very convincing. There were 4 rounds in total, and the manager seemed to coordinate most of it. I was asked for references and provided a few, and luckily, one of them got selected. They sent the offer letter and then the manager reached out because they wanted to reduce the bonus percentage after the offer was released. A new offer letter with corrected details was then sent out. We didn't expect this from a company like Rubrik, and it definitely says something about the culture they are building.
- Can you explain the working mechanism of VMware Snapshots and other related aspects?
Technical Support Engineer
The interview was split into 4 phases. First, a 30 min phone screening with the recruiter about the company, role, culture, and a typical day. Second, another 30 min call with a Senior Manager for more role insights, similar to the first round. Third, a technical call with an Escalation Manager, starting with a brief icebreaker, then about 30 min of technical questions focused on Linux, SQL Databases, Networking, and VMware vSphere. The interviewer valued elaboration over textbook answers. Fourth, a tough onsite interview split into 3 parts. The first hour was behavioral questions about handling different scenarios and customer support skills. The next 2 hours were a technical deep-dive with Senior Engineers, involving whiteboarding and questions on Linux, Windows, VMware, MS Servers, and Networking.
- Can you explain the meaning of 644 permissions on a file in a Linux system?
- Could you define what a Default Gateway is?
- What would be your approach to handling a customer who insists on escalating an issue right away?
Technical Support Engineer
This was easily the worst interview experience I've ever had. The whole thing felt super disorganized and nobody seemed to know what was going on. I had a technical phone call, then a 3-hour in-person interview. You'd think at least the recruiter would be there to greet me, but nope. The receptionist was kinda rude and I ended up waiting in the lobby way past the scheduled start time. The people I met for the in-person just seemed totally checked out. The first guy left 15 minutes early for a doctor's appointment, leaving me alone in the room. The second interviewer was really discouraging and seemed totally unprepared. The third person, a manager, asked me questions that made no sense, based on stuff that wasn't even relevant to my background. Then the fourth person just straight up canceled. They said they'd set up another phone interview, but I never heard back from the recruiter. Honestly, I'd expect at least some basic coordination between interviewers, before and after. I'm actually glad I didn't hear back, because I'd never want to work for a company with such low standards.
- Can you tell me about your background and previous experience?
- I was asked some questions about Storage.
- I was asked some questions about Networking.
