First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at RTM Engineering Consultants.
Studio Coordinator
It was quick and pretty straightforward. I was initially contacted by a recruiter. Then, I had a first call with her, followed by a second call with some managers from the company. My third interview was in person at the office where I would be working, and I met different people there.
- Can you tell me about your goals?
- What software programs do you already know how to use?
- What software are you open to learning?
Electrical Engineer
It was pretty straightforward, starting with a brief HR call to discuss my background and what I was looking for. After that, they set up a chat with the principals. This part was a bit more technical, but still a very relaxed conversation about my experience and past projects.
- Which type of project do you find easier to work on: multifamily, retail, or restaurants?
Mechanical Engineer
I got an email from HR the day after I applied online to schedule a 15-minute phone interview with a Hiring Manager. The interview went for 25 minutes and was basically a chat about my experience, the company's move to a new office, and their "Studio Design" setup where small engineering teams finish projects end-to-end. They were looking for someone with HVAC and REVIT skills plus management experience. The recruiter mentioned I might be a better fit for a different role that suited my skills more. The recruiter didn't ask about salary or why I left my last job, which seemed like a red flag, especially since I didn't get an offer for an in-person interview. HR got back to me quickly two days later saying I wasn't selected.
- Tell me about your experience managing engineering teams.
- Can you describe your HVAC design experience?
Electrical Design Engineer
It wasn't too bad, they mostly asked about my previous experience and how it might fit this job. They also asked about why I picked this industry and what gets me pumped about it.
- What's the main reason you decided to apply here?
- Can you describe your past experience and how it connects to this role?
- What led you to pursue a career in this industry?
