First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Roundabout Theatre.
Teaching Artist
We had a first round interview with about 30 people, and then a demo lesson with about 20 people over two days. Everyone got to see and participate in each other's demos, which was fun and a good learning experience. Even though I didn't finish my lesson, I still got hired.
- What are your long-term career goals for the next 5-10 years?
Database Assistant
So after they processed my application I had this first interview with the HR Manager and the person I would report to. Then they reached out pretty quickly about a second interview. That one was with my supervisor and someone higher up in the department. I was working at a summer camp and couldn't get to NYC for it, but they were cool and did the whole thing over Skype.
- Can you share a positive and memorable moment from a past role?
- What was your least favorite job you've ever had?
Apprentice
First you meet with the Education Department as they run the Career Development Program. Then, if they like you, they will pass you along to other departments they feel are right for you and you are interviewed again by who would be your supervisor. The first round is very general (how did you hear about the program, why Roundabout, etc.), whereas the second round is much more focused on the specific department.
- What is your understanding of the Roundabout Theatre Company?
Marketing Intern
The interview experience wasn't as conversational as I'd hoped; it felt pretty stiff, with standard interview questions. It wasn't terrible, but a lot of the questions were tough to answer if you hadn't prepared beforehand.
- How would a former employer or teacher describe you in three words?
