Rothstein Kass Interview Questions
& Process

Applied through school, got contacted the next week. The day before, there was a social event. A staff member showed us around the "production room floor" where the "grunts" worked, then we went back to the lobby. The partner-in-charge showed up and talked about his broken ankle, the firm's culture, how accounting helps people, and plans to drink with female associates. When asked for questions, one candidate asked about the secret to everyone's happiness, and the partner said Rothstein Kass is a great place to work. I then asked the partner what makes accounting interesting for him, and he seemed stumped and complained about being interviewed. My formal interview the next day started late, had no difficult questions, and felt like a formality. I was later emailed that I wasn't selected for a second round, and the recruiter didn't respond to my request for feedback. The other guy got an offer.

I applied to RK after doing their summer leadership program earlier in college. I emailed the HR manager and they were very friendly in setting up an interview during their on campus interview period. On campus interview was one on one with a Staff auditor from their socal office, took about 2 weeks for them to call back and offer a second round interview at the office I was applying for. I was unable to make their initial desired time period however they were very courteous in postponing until a time that worked for both of us. The second round consisted of three one on one interviews in the office, with two audit managers and a partner, followed by lunch with a staff member. The interviews generally revolved around discussing company culture and the responsibilities of the position, as well as my expectations and why I wanted to join RK and be a CPA. Everyone was very friendly and clearly cared about learning about me personally and whether I would be a good fit, culturally, professionally, and work-ethic wise, for the position.

My first interview was on campus about 2 weeks ago. I let them know I needed to hear back fast bc of school. A week later, they called and said I was invited to the second round interviews at their office. They asked me to come in this week, today. I went in and had 5 interviews back-to-back. Three managers, a partner, and an HR person. They were all super chill and the whole process was very laid back. The first round had behavioral Qs, and the second round was just getting to know me (I didn't get any behavioral questions at all). I got a call tonight with my offer and accepted it.

They had me come in for a company tour and networking event the day before the interview. The interview was at the university recruiting center. They asked me about my resume experiences and we talked a lot about the firm culture and their specialty in hedge funds. They are really proud of their company and their focus on the financial services industry. They mentioned that knowing finance isn't required but it's helpful. They also highlighted their excellent training and emphasized engaging with their familial company culture, which the interviewer said was the best thing about the company.
