First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Romano's Macaroni Grill.

We did a roleplay where I had to mock serve them and go through the whole process of showing the wine, asking about appetizers, main courses and desserts. My manager was nice and helped me out when I was unsure. After that, I was able to do it perfectly on the floor.
- What is the correct way to present wine to a customer?
Server
The interview process was pretty straightforward. Standard interview questions, but I initiated most of the contact. I went to the location to fill out an application, but now they do it online. So the kitchen manager had me fill out the online application that same day. I called the next day and got my first interview. I called again the next day and got another interview with the GM. This interview was quite in-depth. I honestly can't recall all the questions. I think he asked so many because I only had one year of server experience, so he probed more to see if I could handle the job. He mainly wanted to gauge my food knowledge and my drive to learn. Overall, the managers were easygoing and pleasant. My training and hiring have been quicker than usual, but I've been the one pushing for speed. I didn't wait for calls and I'm there daily to complete my training and get on the floor. Lots of studying involved!
- What are your recommendations for wine pairings?
- What is your familiarity with Italian cuisine?
Server
I had a face-to-face interview with the general manager. It usually happened sometime between lunch and the night shift. They asked me questions about school. If I was in college, the manager asked if my classes would interfere with working nights and weekends. After that I got an offer.
- Are you okay with selling or up-selling to customers?
- If you're in college, will your classes get in the way of working nights and weekends?
