Product Manager
This is an interview for Director of Product Management. The recruiter was late and unprofessional, trying to discourage me from applying. She ghosted me for weeks, then scheduled interviews with errors in dates, times, and links. The hiring manager interview was good, a solid product discussion. The panel interviews also had scheduling errors, and all interviewers were late. The questions were repetitive and the interviewers (engineering, UI/UX) seemed unqualified to assess product management skills. The UI/UX interviewer focused on a niche topic I didn't specialize in, making it a poor conversation. The overall panel was unprepared and uncoordinated. I was ghosted again and received a rejection email with more errors. The role reopened 3 months later, raising concerns about the company's hiring practices, professionalism, and slow processes.
- Product case questions with the hiring manager.
- Random unplanned, irrelevant and unstructured questions from the rest of the panel.
Product Manager
Applied online and got contacted within two weeks. The first step was a chat with the hiring manager who explained the role and seemed interested in my background. After that, I met with five team members over the next two weeks, about 30 minutes each. The last interview was with the VP, and those talks were really good. The recruiters were also involved and made the offer.
- Tell me about a significant accomplishment from your current role.
- What's your perspective on market evolution and our company's place within it?
Product Manager
The interview started off a bit strange. The recruiter was super upfront, mentioning how swamped he was and how many people he'd already spoken to for this role. Then, I had a good chat with the hiring manager, asked some standard questions, and it seemed to go well. But, just 15 minutes after that call ended, the recruiter called back to say they weren't moving forward, giving some reason. I thanked him, wished him a good weekend, and he actually hung up on me while I was still talking. Super weird. Glad they didn't ghost me, but that quick rejection followed by being hung up on felt really off. Makes me wonder about working there.
- Can you describe your approach to organizing a product backlog?
