Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rockwell Collins.
Intern
They just ask behavioral questions about you. No technical questions are included since they already know your skills and are more interested in your teamwork abilities and how well you collaborate with others.
- Can you explain your interest in Rockwell Collins?
Technical Intern
I applied for an engineering internship at a career fair. First, I did an elevator pitch, then an HR rep scanned my resume and asked me to elaborate on some things. They seemed happy and scheduled an on-campus interview. The interview was super relaxed, with an HR rep and an engineer. The HR rep asked standard questions like strengths/weaknesses, company knowledge, and leadership. The engineer asked about my technical projects and team experience. They focused on personality and cultural fit rather than tough technical questions. After that, I had to apply online to an 'internship pool' job. Interviewer notes were tied to my account. If a hiring manager needed someone, they'd check this list. I was contacted by an engineering manager for a phone interview, which was basically a repeat of the engineer's questions, like a final check. Then I got an offer. It might seem like a lot of steps with no guarantee, but it helps get you on a short list and makes you more visible to hiring managers for unadvertised roles.
- What are your strongest and weakest qualities?
- What's your understanding of our company?
- Share an instance where you demonstrated leadership.
Intern
I applied online and got a call to set up a phone interview within a week. After the interview, I was offered a position within another week, so the whole process took 2 weeks. The interview was really relaxed and the managers were very friendly. It was more that they wanted to see if I would be a good personality fit for the team, rather than my qualifications since they already saw my resume. They asked a lot of scenario questions, some specific to my past positions.
- Can you describe a situation where you were unable to meet a deadline and explain what actions you took?
