First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rockwell Collins.
Electrical Engineer
I applied online and then HR reached out to set up a phone chat with the hiring managers. After picking a date, I got the call. The interview was pretty simple: they had me walk through my resume and point out anything I thought was a highlight relevant to the job. After I gave a quick overview, they asked some questions to check my knowledge. I was upfront about what I didn't know and answered what I did; the questions weren't too tough. They mainly focused on my projects, past experiences, and relevant coursework. It was a relaxed interview, and they were friendly. I got an offer about a week later, and it was just one 30-minute phone call.
- Could you describe any projects you've worked on that relate to this role?
Senior Electrical Engineer
So I had some one on ones with managers and principal engineers. Then there was a group interview with some other team members. It was a whole 8 hour day of interviews, so buckle up. The managers were pretty cool, just chatting about work/life balance and the area. It felt like I already had the job. But then the real interviews started. The group meetings were with some really arrogant engineers who acted like my resume was trash and they'd done way better. The other one on ones with the principal engineers didn't go so well either. They were laser-focused on super specific questions. Like this one engineer had me review code for a bug his team spent months on, and he expected me to spot it in 5 minutes. It was pretty stressful, maybe they wanted to see how I think under pressure and handle stress?
- Tell me about how you approach problems.
- Describe your methods for resolving disagreements.
- Given some code, can you identify a subtle bug within a tight time limit?
Electrical Engineer
After submitting my application, it took about two weeks to get my interview set up. The interview itself was a 45-minute phone call, and it was mostly behavioral questions. It felt both nice but still serious. HR gave me an offer a week later, and I had a week to accept it. HR and my future boss both did a good job answering my questions about the job and setting up the times.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Rockwell?
- What would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
- What is it that motivates you?
