The interview was a bit all over the place. They talked a lot about what they expected from the role, but it wasn't clear at all how success would be judged. It felt like they wanted someone to do everything. It was confusing. When I asked questions, their answers were vague and non-committal. They also made it pretty clear they didn't think highly of the Senior Leadership team.

I've shopped at Rockler before, so I already knew Michael Yukihiro from when he's helped me out as a customer. Michael manages Store 20 (Orange) and he called me in for an interview. It took about 30 minutes. Michael told me a bit about Rockler's history and what the job involves. He asked about my woodworking background and any other jobs I've had. He also wanted to know what made me interested in working for Rockler. It felt pretty laid-back, but we covered all the usual stuff you'd expect for the role.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The first step was a phone call with HR, asking typical questions about my background and leadership skills. Then, I had a second interview with two Marketing Directors, which felt like a good conversation. The last interview was with the CEO, but it didn't go well. His questions were all over the place, and he didn't seem engaged in discussing customer experience or the omnichannel retail strategy, which is what the role was about. We just didn't click, and it was good we found out. Later, HR let me know they were moving forward with other candidates, which felt mutual.
