Account Manager
I had about 6 different calls: HR, hiring manager, 2 team members, hiring manager again, and then HR again. It was pretty straight forward, a mix of casual conversations to see if I'd fit the culture and then technical questions to understand my past experiences and skills. There were no curveballs.
- Can you tell me about the size of your previous books of business?
- What types of businesses were included in those books of business?
- How did you identify opportunities for upselling?
Finance Operations Manager
Applied, and then the recruiter quickly reached out to set up a chat about the role. The initial screening felt like a conversation, covering my background and the company. Then I interviewed with the hiring manager, team members, and the senior leader in Finance. Everyone was really nice and asked good questions. The whole interview process was well-organized and really worked around my schedule. Excited to join!
- Can you discuss your background in finance operations?
- Could you share your knowledge of accounting systems and processes?
Product Marketing Manager
I had a great conversation with the recruiter and was extremely excited about the company. For the next stage, they set me up with 3 interviews from marketing, product, and sales. The interviews were set for 45 minutes each but all 3 went over because they asked a ton of questions. I completed the three interviews and got an email the following day (a Friday) to say the interviewers would be meeting the following week to discuss. I followed up one week later as I hadn't heard anything and got a generic email back saying they decided to put hiring on hold. I responded asking for any feedback or additional information and never heard anything. Understand needs change, but extremely frustrating to not get any information after sinking close to 4 hours (plus prep time) on the interviews.
- When starting a new role, how would you establish relationships with product management?
- What metrics or methods do you use to evaluate the success of product marketing initiatives?
Senior Software Engineer
So after the recruiter call, they sent me a HackerRank for the front-end. It had 6 MCQs and 2 coding questions. Even though they use Angular, they tested vanilla JS skills. It was pretty easy and I finished with time left. Then I got an email saying the requirements changed and they needed to test my backend skills. So another HackerRank, which was annoying but at least it was only one question and took like 10 minutes. It turned out to be a LeetCode backtracking/permutation problem. I don't get what this has to do with backend dev, but I could use Node. I tried for a bit until I got too annoyed and quit. So I didn't move on. My advice: test backend skills with a backend problem.
- How would you add elements to a page using vanilla JavaScript?
- Can you determine the probabilities of dice rolls using a server-side language?
