Digital Account Manager
Applied on LinkedIn, got a call for an initial 30-minute phone interview. We dove straight into questions without any introductory chat about ourselves. After following up, I was invited for an in-person meeting. At the f2f, I met the same person from the phone call because another interviewer bailed. We discussed the position briefly before moving to scripted questions. The rapport felt good, and my answers seemed well-received. However, I was told they'd continue first-round interviews (even though it felt like a second interview) and then schedule a second round. I didn't hear back after that meeting and didn't follow up, sensing a lack of enthusiasm from their side for me or the role.
- Can you give a reason why a colleague might not want to collaborate with you?
SEO Specialist
So I applied and then the head of HR called me for like a 5-minute chat. She just read my resume back to me and asked if it was right. Then she set up an in-person interview with the CEO. I got there early, but he was late. People walked by and ignored me. The CEO offered me a drink, then said they were only for employees. He said he'd had a lot of bad interviews and didn't have time to read my resume, so he read it in silence. Then he asked about my current company since he'd never heard of it and what the worst part about it was. He talked a lot about loyalty and wanting someone to stick around and put in the hours, which felt like a cult. He kept asking about my company size and clients, and if I'd leave if clients spent less than $1,000 on media fees. He said they don't train and want someone who can just do the work. Then, 7 people came in and it was like a firing squad, they made it clear they didn't want someone new joining. They asked random questions and one even questioned why they were hiring. It was weird and I'm glad I didn't get an offer.
- Where would you go in a zombie apocalypse?
- Would you quit if you were assigned small clients?
- Are you comfortable working without training?
Project Manager
The interview was mainly about how I thought we could best serve clients. It seemed like client satisfaction was the main focus, which is how I feel too. I got to meet some of the management team and future coworkers. I really liked the office and got a great vibe. I'm hoping to work at R55 or a place like it someday.
- What steps would you take if a client expressed dissatisfaction with our services?
Copywriter
A few days after applying, I got a call. The interview was relaxed but really got things done. We talked about what's happening in the industry, where I see things going, and how I could help clients stay ahead. They asked about my background and then I had to write two blog posts for them to look at as part of the hiring choice.
