First, there was an online assessment to complete within 7 days, which took about 45 minutes. They also recommend doing a sample assessment beforehand, and I'd say do it because the actual assessment was a bit weird. I ended up wasting time trying to double-click answers instead of dragging them, and didn't finish on time. After that, I had an initial video screening call with the HR recruiter.

So I had a phone screen first, then a case study to do. After that, I had my first interview, which was pretty easy and straightforward with expected questions. The phone screen had behavioral questions, and the case study review was more like a chat to see if I'd fit in. They said I'd hear back in about a week, since it was month-end close time, but when I followed up, I just got a rejection instead.

The process was thorough. It started with a screening interview with the recruiter, covering typical questions about background and culture fit. The recruiter was available throughout the process for questions and clarification. Next was an interview with the Hiring Manager, who asked two or three thoughtful questions to understand my experience and level. Then, I had a series of interviews with potential peers who were all very engaged and knowledgeable about the position. Finally, I met with the Hiring Manager again to ask my own questions. While the whole process took a while, it ensured that both sides were clear on what they were getting into.

The process started with a phone screen that had a simple coding algorithm and questions like 'When do you stop building features?'. After that, I had a coding challenge where I had to add functionality to a React/Angular app that listed hotels, dealing with things like image loading or fixing search. It was supposed to take 3-4 hours, but I spent 4-5. The onsite was a bit of a unique experience. The person who opened the door seemed upset I rang the bell, which was an odd start. The onsite itself was broad. First, I talked to a product person about personal questions. Then, I spoke with a Senior Engineer about JavaScript and React, including questions about Redux and Context. After that, two engineers and I had a back-and-forth with questions, followed by system design of the company's app as a React/Redux app, and unexpectedly also some back-end system design. The next step was pair programming with an engineer to enhance the coding challenge from earlier and discuss decisions. Finally, I spoke with the CTO about high-level life goals and vague concepts. I got a rejection, and the initial odd reception, plus some directionless interviews, made it feel like a waste of time, though the company culture seems okay.
