First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rocket Lab.
Software Engineer
The interview process starts with a recruiter call, followed by a meeting with the team. Then there's a test assessment, which is pretty easy. The final step is an on-site interview. The interviews are generally relaxed and chill, with some technical discussions in the second and third steps, but they're not trying to trick you.
- Can you tell me about a negative aspect of yourself?
Software Engineer
A recruiter from RocketLab reached out to me. We had a 30-minute call, and then I was quickly set up with a senior software engineer for a meeting a week later. The next day, I got an email saying they wanted to move forward and sent me a take-home test. I completed it over the weekend and submitted it on Sunday. After that, there was silence. No feedback on the test, no rejection, and no update even after two weeks. I then emailed the recruiter asking for a status update, but two more weeks passed with no response. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with how the process went.
- How do you handle requirements that are different or keep changing?
Software Engineer
It was a long and tough process. Started with an HR call that included some coding questions. The next round was supposed to be technical and behavioral, but it was only technical stuff. Then came a technical assignment, which I wasn't feeling anymore because of how long it took and how much work it was. The third round was a panel interview, also meant to be technical and behavioral, but it was mostly technical with maybe one behavioral question. They didn't really get to know me. Even though I knew all the answers and details about the assignment, some questions made it seem like they thought I had a physics degree, not a software engineering one. It felt like they didn't get that I'm a software engineer. The interviewers seemed inexperienced and it was more like a quiz. Got a generic email the next week, which was rude. Lots of red flags, I'd check out their culture before applying.
