This was the absolute worst interview experience of my 20+ year career. The outside recruiter, Arlene Barro Consulting, was incredibly unprofessional. The CEO of Roadway, Ross Sapir, initially seemed like a great guy who believed in karma, but he turned out to be a dishonest and indecisive slickster. Ignore the overly positive reviews on Glassdoor; they're likely from current employees trying to stay in line. A more realistic view comes from a review about "false promises" from August 2017. They don't offer 401(k), profit sharing, or much paid vacation/holidays, and notably, they don't include MLK day for their largely black staff. Their HQ is in a rough part of the south Bronx, which is something to be aware of. Also, they falsely advertise themselves as Yelp's #1 Mover in NYC when they are actually #2 or #3.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The CEO felt it was appropriate to mention his past marriage to an African-American woman during the initial interview, especially considering I am an African-American candidate. This was offensive, patronizing, and revealing.

I got to the office about half an hour before my interview was supposed to start and introduced myself to Chakira. I filled out some paperwork, and Chakira came back to interview me about 15 minutes later.

We began with a chat to get acquainted, then they asked me some things about myself and my work history. We wrapped up by discussing why I'd be a good fit for the role, and then I got the job right then and there.
