Sales Associate
The interview process was really smooth. The first interview was a phone call, and the second was in person. The bosses were very laid-back and cool. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I'd definitely recommend applying here.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle someone difficult.
Copywriter
I applied online and it took them a few weeks to get back to me. Then the recruiter called me out of the blue, left a voicemail, and followed up by email. She told me the CEO is "heavily involved in marketing." They want people in office 5 days per week. The next day I got a canned rejection email.
- Have you ever built emails before?
Marketing
This was a really bad interview experience, possibly one of the worst. The recruiter didn't seem to have reviewed my resume at all. It started with very general, big-picture questions, and then shifted to basic job-related questions that felt more appropriate for a junior candidate. The recruiter then asked about my willingness to work five days a week at the San Diego office. Since I commute 90 minutes, I said no. The interview then ended quite suddenly.
- I don't recall the specific questions, but they were all pretty weak.
Retail Fit Expert
I applied online, had a phone interview, then an in-store interview. The in-store interview included shadowing someone for an hour or more. The experience was great, employees were great, but the area manager not so much. It appears genuine compassion to help others and experience can work against you in sales. I've been a dedicated customer and referral source for Road Runner for over 15+ years. My background is in Exercise Science and I was hoping to give back, learn from Road Runner and help empower customers meet their shoe and apparel needs. I was declined the job offer the next morning after my two-hour shadow experience. The store manager said to expect a phone call from the area manager, but instead I received the HR template email before doors even opened the next morning. I requested input to improve the interview process. Unfortunately, rather than constructive input, the area manager's not-so-truthful response was they had other candidates. However, the job posting has remained current and reposted. Thus, I am sad and disappointed. Not about the job, but more importantly experiencing firsthand that a company to whom I have referred hundreds of individuals and organizations in my community is not the same on the inside as it represents itself outwardly. Caution to those with genuine passion, it can often be misinterpreted. Lastly, while still a bit dazed and confused, I sincerely wish Road Runner the best. On the outside, they have always offered exceptional customer service.
