First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at RJ Young Co..
Business Development Representative
The interview process went smoothly. It mainly focused on who you are as a person and what you can bring to the team. You do have to take a PI test which then they go over in the interview and ask you questions based on that.
- What are your 3-4 year career goals and what motivates you to achieve them?
Customer Care Specialist
I had a phone call where I was asked about my experience or skills relevant to the role. It was tough for me to answer those general questions. But I felt good asking them questions about the company, and they gave me quick, professional answers that helped me understand what they expect.
- What experience or skills do you bring to this role?
Director of Marketing
I was contacted by their recruiter for this role and did not apply for the role. The interview with the CEO was polite and relaxed with a general discussion of the company and the role. Before accepting the interview I noticed the reviews on Glassdoor referring to this company as a "Good Old Boys Club". After interviewing, I am forced to agree. When asked about the negative reviews, I was told that they use to be that way and were making changes. In the same breath, he said that reputation management was "BS". When he was asked about diversity, he only spoke about hiring more women. the CEO did not address hiring people of color or LGBTQ+ individuals. During this statement, he also told me the ages of the people in leadership. The CEO repeatedly referenced family and that his wife likes to socialize with many team members. He also made multiple references to home and family in a highly traditional sense. When walking through the office, I saw very little in the way of diversity. RJ Young seems to have a solid product and service offering and a solid financial outlook, but the statement about the "Good Old Boy Club" is, in my opinion, very truthful. The recruiter contacted me two days later informing me that they are not moving forward with my candidacy because they could not provide "the right environment for your success in the role."
- Can you describe your general strategy?
- Could you address the negative reviews about the company being a "Good Old Boys Club"?
- What is your perspective on diversity hiring within the company?
Sales Representative
So after applying, I had a one-on-one chat with the hiring manager, and then took a personality test. If I passed that, and also the drug test and background check, they gave me an offer.
- Can you tell me about a person you admire and the reasons for that?
