Product Manager
I went through a phone interview and then an onsite interview. The onsite consisted of three interviews with people from Operations, HR, and Product. They seemed really excited about the product and were helpful. It felt like they were a bit rushed at the end, but it was a great overall experience. What really stood out was the recruiter's feedback. Even after a rejection, they provided specific points on where I could improve, which is rare these days. Big thanks to Aaron for that.

- Tell me about a time when...
- How would you analyze this situation?

The interviews were mostly about solving puzzles and tackling open-ended problems. Everyone I met onsite was nice and easy to talk to. It was a bit strange to have an onsite interview when the job details weren't even set yet. They didn't know the reporting structure or which team the role would work with. Salary and other details hadn't been discussed either. It felt disorganized, like a preview of how the company operates. Some people I spoke with acted like they were extremely important, which made it hard to connect. It was impossible to discuss work style, career goals, or how someone in this position could contribute – basically, anything about the day-to-day of the role – because the focus was on puzzles, not on fit. It felt like a bad imitation of how Google or Facebook interviews work.

I talked to them twice about two PM roles over the course of a year. Both times they set me up with follow up interviews and then told me someone was hired after they set up the interview. Hiring someone else isn’t an issue, the way they handle it was quite atrocious. This time the interviewer didn’t even bother to show up to the meeting. I waited 30 minutes on the call before leaving. They told me they raised a large sum of money with no plan to handle the pivot for the pandemic during the first round of interviews. During this second round their strategy was to ask REITs to give discounts for new merchants. The idea sounded ridiculous to me, wasn’t really a pivot to anything of value. But I respected the interview process. If you want to waste your time, then spend it on this garage organization who’s already getting eaten by Uber. Their product has zero value prop or defensibility.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage a conflict?
