Manager
The whole experience was pretty great, everyone was super nice and it all went really smoothly. The recruiter was always in touch. I went through a few rounds of interviews and made it to the very end.
- Can you share some of your previous experience and your thoughts about this position?
- What are your ideas for this role?
Marketing
I was really excited to interview at Ritual since it's a company I've admired for a long time due to their cool products and innovation. However, the initial screening interview felt rushed and not very personal. The recruiter was friendly via email, but on the call, they were more distant and immediately started asking unexpected technical questions that seemed out of place for a first interview. I didn't get a chance to ask my own questions, and the salary range mentioned initially didn't align with the actual offer range, which was pretty awkward. I'm looking to leave a bad work environment, and this experience honestly made me feel more defeated than hopeful. It was disappointing for a brand I really like.
- In addition to the standard "Why are you looking?" and "Why Ritual?" questions, can you tell me about how you've leveraged first-party data to shape strategy?
- Can you share examples of how you’ve used first-party data to drive strategy, going beyond the typical screening questions?
Director
I applied for the Director role and also messaged the VP (hiring manager) on LinkedIn for an informational chat. She agreed to set up a time to talk. I thought it was a formal interview since I wasn't contacted by a recruiter. The call was scheduled via Google Hangouts. I was on time, but she didn't show up for 15 minutes. I sent her an email after 5 minutes. She finally joined the call after 15 minutes and apologized, saying her previous meeting ran over. She mentioned she should have notified me. Since we only had 15 minutes left, we skipped the rapport-building and dove straight into the conversation. She didn't seem very engaged. I quickly walked through my background and answered a few high-level questions, followed by a brief Q&A. For a Director-level marketing role, I was surprised we didn't discuss strategy or my experience in more detail. She suggested scheduling more time, but I haven't heard back in days. Without a recruiter, I had no one to follow up with. The whole experience gave me a poor impression of the company. The lack of communication, disorganization, and disengagement from the hiring manager raised red flags.
- Can you tell me about your background?
Designer
This was the longest and most convoluted interview process I've ever been through. I had to come in on four separate days over six months, and I even met with the same people multiple times. It felt like a total waste of time because they seemed unsure of what they were looking for and just kept me hanging. I would have preferred if they had just told me upfront if I wasn't a good fit, but instead, they asked me lengthy questions that weren't engaging or insightful. What made the interview experience particularly unpleasant was the obvious ego; they really thought highly of themselves and made sure it showed. The whole vibe just felt off.
