RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) Interview Questions
& Process

So, there were two rounds in the interview process. The first one was virtual, and the second one was in person and included a presentation. I met with at least two interviewers in each round. They mostly asked questions about how I can do the job, behavioral stuff, and if I knew about RIT and how I'd fit into the team and the community. Having previous higher education experience is a big plus!

It was an online presentation, lasted about an hour. I presented my experience with engineering materials testing and buying lab equipment. We also talked about future research stuff, my long term plans and how to set up the lab equipment.

The interview process was smooth and enjoyable, featuring a conversational style. It included questions about skills and motivation, a role-play exercise, and a brief presentation. HR and hiring managers were involved. There were three interviews in total, and the decision-making process was quick. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

The interview process was lengthy. I got a recruiter call, then a zoom interview, and then half a day of in person interviews. It took 4 months from application to the in-person interviews. The in-person interviews involved nine different people. After interviewing, I was told I would hear something within 2 weeks. FIVE weeks later, I reached out to inquire if they had filled the position, and then I finally received an automated message back, stating they had selected a different candidate. Four months later, I received an invite "encouraging" me to apply for essentially the same job in another part of the University. I did apply, and quickly received an automated message back saying that my application was not selected for advancement. I was confused why I was encouraged to take the time to apply again, when my application was so swiftly rejected. I guess this is just how their automated system works? After preparing for and spending half a day interviewing in the final round, it would have been nice to have received at least a personal note of some kind saying I was not selected. I was not expecting this impersonal approach from an institution of this caliber, especially when many of the interview questions were centered around building relationships. If the university is seeking candidates with a high level of engagement, they should return the courtesy of providing human interaction during the selection and interview process instead of relying on automated systems.
