I got to the interview and checked in at the front desk. The hiring manager called me back. I was a bit anxious but remembered my experience and love for caring for people. She took me to her office and we started talking. She asked me basic questions about my background, my time as a CNA, and why I got into healthcare. I told her I like making people feel safe and cared for, especially when they're at their lowest. Then, we went over my past jobs: taking vitals, helping with daily activities, charting, hospice care, and keeping patients safe. She also asked about handling tough patients, managing my workload, and talking to nurses. I used examples from my work to show how I think and act professionally. They also wanted to know if I was okay working with seniors, people with dementia, or those needing full care. I mentioned staying patient, calm, and respectful. Near the end, she told me about the job duties, schedule, and how much work there is. She asked if I had questions, and I asked about staffing, training, and team support. She thanked me as I left and said they'd review my application. I sent a thank-you email later. A few days later, they called with an offer. The interview was pretty simple and focused on my skills, kindness, communication, and reliability.

It was a standard interview. They were super nice and asked a lot about my knowledge of eldercare, particularly dementia patients. We even discussed top trainers and I thought it was cool that the company president was trained too. It made me feel good that they cared about their own learning, and hopefully, they care about ours too.

It was easy, over the phone. They walked me through the hiring process and discussed my hours of availability. They also asked what regions I could work in and if I had a G license. Then they explained how to sign into the care app.

The staff was really rude and unwelcoming. The interview process involves a test with about 60 questions on basic resident care. Then, you get an application packet with a checklist of required documents and an orientation date. You have to pay for your own background check, driving history, etc. You must be on time; they won't let you attend orientation if you're even a second late. I live an hour away and arrived 7 minutes late, and they told me I couldn't orientate.

  • What is your approach to handling a resident who is combative?
