First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rifle Paper Co..
Copywriter
They use this internal online messaging and scheduling system that I'd never seen before and was not particularly intuitive to use. Otherwise it was a fairly smooth process. The interviewer was a brand manager for the marketing side but had been doing all copywriting for quite a while, which sounded crazy given they are a fairly large indie company with lots of partnerships and projects.
- Can you describe your creative process?
Graphic Designer
The recruiter contacted me asking for my portfolio, which was weird because 1) I already sent it with my application and 2) it was right there on my resume, so they clearly didn't even read it. After two weeks, I followed up and they said they were 'still reviewing my qualifications,' but then never got back to me. Honestly, I don't think they were even trying to hire someone.
- Can you send over your portfolio link?
Product Manager
I applied on the website and heard back after more than 4 weeks for an in-person interview. Scheduling was easy on their site. The interview went well, the questions were as expected, and the panel was friendly. Later that week, I was asked back for a second interview. I confirmed the time but got no confirmation or calendar invite, and wasn't told who I'd meet. When I got there, thankfully the interview was set up, though I was nervous without confirmation. I met with someone from the first interview and the two owners. I was excited to meet them because I admire their company and their art. But one owner was distracted, looking at his phone a lot, which threw me off and made me self-conscious. They mentioned in both interviews they wanted to decide quickly. I followed up 4 times with the coordinator over 3 weeks and finally got a form letter saying I wasn't selected. Some parts of the process felt sloppy. I hope they review it. To attract top talent, they need to attract top talent. A sloppy interview process with slow follow-up, a disinterested owner, and impersonal communication isn't helping. Sadly, this soured my view of the brand and my interest in the product.
- What steps would you take to resolve our current project management challenges?
Product Assembly Specialist
I sent my cover letter and resume to the HR email as instructed and heard back within an hour. They asked me to answer 5 questions. After I sent those back the same day, I got an email a few hours later with a link to book an in-person interview. The two associates who interviewed me were really nice. I checked in about two weeks later and then again a week after that. I got a reply both times within 48 hours and finally got a job offer about 3 weeks after the interview.
- Regarding project completion, do you prioritize hitting the quality standard or the deadline?
