First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Richner Communications Inc..
Sales Assistant
Hiring process was a bit messy. They first seemed really interested in me after I applied for a specific job that seemed perfect for my skills. Then I found out they were interviewing for a different job I didn't apply for. After a long wait with no news, I applied for that other job. In the second interview, one of the people from the first interview seemed surprised I was even being considered again. Things got unprofessional with people muting themselves and looking frustrated on the call. I felt like they didn't know what they were doing or valuing me. Based on other reviews, I probably dodged a bullet.
- Can you introduce yourself and tell me about your hobbies and other interests?
Journalist
The interview lasted three hours. Only about 10 minutes of it was relevant to the job. This is how the executive director chooses his reporters, based on interview length. If you have an interview with Michael Hinman, be prepared to dedicate your whole day.
- Can you describe your responsibilities in your last role?
- Could you share some of your experiences with storytelling?
News Reporter
The interview was pretty chill but also serious, they wanted to know what I was hoping to report on and why I was keen on becoming a journalist. A big part was how I could actually help out local areas by doing super local news.
- What kind of issues would you be interested in reporting on?
Director
The first part of the hiring process went well, it was an in person interview and they asked standard questions for the role. The job posting required 10-15+ years of experience and they said it was a key role. The next step was supposed to be a final interview with the owner, but it turned out to be 4 interviews over 5 hours. Most questions were repeated, and a team interview would have been more efficient. For a communications company, the communication before, during, and after the interviews was really poor. I tried following up many times with no response, and then they reposted the job with the experience requirement lowered to 2+ years from 10-15+ years. They have a reputation for being cheap and it seemed like they didn't want to pay for skilled people.
- They asked me what I would implement in the role, specifically asking for details, which felt like they wanted my ideas to improve their product, but I was hesitant to share too much in case they stole my ideas, which didn't create a good sense of trust.
