So, I applied for a tech writer gig, and they hit me with this 'test'. They wanted me to write a whole 10-page scholarly article, complete with APA citations, and guess what? It was all for free. When I asked if they could do a shorter sample or pay me for that much work, they just said 'not possible'. It felt like they were totally trying to exploit me, asking for that much unpaid work and calling it a 'test'. Major red flags here, seriously. If you're applying, just be super careful, they don't seem to care about your time or talent.

The recruiter was super attentive and answered all my questions without any fluff. They were really upfront about the process and when I could expect to hear back with a decision.

Behavioral Technical

The hiring process seems a bit deceptive. It feels welcoming and helpful initially, but then it becomes insincere and unprofessional. They told me "you're a first choice finalist and you have the job" and that any interviews after that were just a formality. They also verbally promised quick updates and callbacks, but then they didn't deliver. They didn't even reply to my voicemails and emails. There's a dishonest vibe to how the recruiting and HR process was handled.

Technical Behavioral

I got the job. It was a 2 stage interview process, with a phone interview first, then an in-person interview. The in-person interview consisted of 5 people: 4 VPs, the GM, one other engineer, a Recruiting/Executive Assistant, and the CEO. They told me they had a "disruptive technology" and didn't want someone who "thought like an engineer." There weren't many questions for me. The CEO was on his iPhone the whole time, and didn't make eye contact with me. Most of the people in the interview have now left the company.
