Gallery Assistant
I was contacted by someone and we had a great conversation about my background and my goal to grow into a Gallery Manager role, for which I was very qualified. I mentioned a concern about my past experience, and the recruiter assured me it wouldn't be an issue given my other qualifications. Next, I met with the Gallery Manager, which was also a pleasant and productive discussion. I asked about her goals and the brand's future, and she gave me some enjoyable "homework." After that, I had a phone interview with another recruiter covering leadership and hiring topics, which went well. I then visited HQ in Corte Madera for an informative meeting with an executive and a tour, where we again discussed what I'd need to focus on and my background. I was again told my perceived lack of experience in a certain area was not a concern. Following that, I had a virtual interview with another executive in New York. The whole experience was engaging, and I was really sold on the brand. I was later called and told they loved me, but for the very reason I had repeatedly mentioned, they decided I wasn't a good fit for Gallery Assistant Leader. Interestingly, I was later approached for a Gallery Leader position elsewhere, which addressed the previously mentioned gap in my resume.
- What kind of books do you read?
- Describe your leadership style.
- How do you plan to adapt to this new environment?
Gallery Assistant
This interview happened at the King of Prussia, PA location. It was brief but felt very long. The interviewer seemed unhappy to be there, was curt, and didn't engage in conversation. She gave me advice to research the company to present myself better, referencing my attire (I wasn't dressed in all black). Her unwelcoming demeanor made me uncomfortable, giving off a vibe of 'you're not RH material.' I'm thankful I didn't get the job because I had a bad feeling and don't think I would have been happy. It was a horrible experience being shut down and made to feel like I wasn't worth their time after being nervous and excited.
- Can you read off our core values?
- Could you tell us about yourself?
- What made you choose Restoration Hardware specifically?
Gallery Assistant
The interview process started with a phone call for a casual screening, where they discussed salary expectations and my thoughts about RH. This was followed by an in-person interview with the head designer and store manager. During this meeting, we talked about my design experience, previous work experience, my views on RH, and my work expectations. The overall experience was okay, nothing particularly special.
- Can you tell me about your design experience?
- What is your relevant experience?
