The entire process was conducted online. It started with a brief grammar quiz, and then I had to complete a 2-minute transcription exercise. I felt my submission was very good, especially since I'm a retired professor and published author who's careful about spelling and grammar. However, just an hour after applying online, I got an email saying I wasn't selected, with no explanation why. It made me question who they do accept and how they judge the work. I've applied for transcription jobs before, so this application process was familiar.

Instead of a traditional interview, there are three online tests: a grammar test, an essay test, and a transcription test. Plan for 1-2 hours to complete everything. The transcription test is the toughest part. If you haven't transcribed conversations with multiple speakers before, I wouldn't advise applying. The style guide they gave wasn't clear on how to divide speaker entries when they talk over each other. It only mentions how to handle parts where you can't understand what multiple people are saying. I was rejected quickly, but they didn't say why. They just list the top three common mistakes. They also mentioned that only 12% of applicants get approved. It would have been better if they shared this information before, but they probably know not many would apply with those odds.
