First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Restaurant Associates.
Manager
I had an initial call with the recruiting administrator, then two interviews with the restaurant's management team. The process was easy but took a while. They really did a good job of checking me out and telling me clearly what they wanted, how the company was set up, and its values.
- They asked what I was looking for out of the role.
General Manager
Over my 30+ year career in hospitality, I've never experienced such a long and disappointing interview process as I did with RA. Including an assessment, I went through 8 steps and 9 interviews over 2 months. Then, I was told I might need a 10th interview! After waiting again for scheduling, I got a call saying they weren't moving forward. When I asked for feedback, the internal recruiter said they had nothing to share. It was bizarre and emotionally draining for me and my family. Both RA's hiring VP and their client indicated it was a done deal, just one formality left. No job, not even a government one, has so many interview steps. This was for overseeing food production and service, not a military operation. I was overqualified, and after such a long process, receiving no feedback and no offer felt like a slap in the face. I know this was a big hire for RA, but what happened is inexcusable. I also had to pay over $40 for parking, and they only offered to pay the second time they asked me to come back. Everyone I spoke to was professional until I was ghosted. The position is still open 5 months later, and the salary has changed multiple times. RA, I was excited about this project and the company, but the handling of this was awful and doesn't reflect the company image or how associates are treated.
- Can you provide detailed cost and financial information?
- What are your general management philosophies?
Catering Operations Manager
The interview process was really thorough, and the teams were super informative. What stood out most was how welcoming everyone was. The employees seemed genuinely happy at their jobs, which made me really optimistic about hearing back after the initial interviews.
- Describe your approach to managing conflict.
- How effective are you at multitasking?
- What is your experience working with different departments?
Butler
A friend told me about this Butler job. About 20 people were interviewed that day, but individually. It was a nice chat about my previous jobs, why I wanted to work there, and my availability. I did my tax forms there and got contacted about training soon after. Someone from New York came to train us new hires for a few hours on how to set tables, serve properly, and handle different situations.
- Can you tell me about your past serving experience?
- Why are you interested in this role?
- What is your availability?
