First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Resource Energy.
Energy Manager
First, there was a screening chat with the HR Manager about the company, the open role, and what you're looking for. Then, two phone calls happened to go over the position more and ask about how you'd handle different work situations.
- What draws you to our company?
- Can you describe your educational background?
- What motivated your decision to enter this field?
Software Test Engineer
Applied through indeed and got contacted by a Talent Acquisition Manager. Had a 10-15 minute call with her. Then got invited for an in-person interview. Met the TA Manager again, then the VP and CTO. They spent 45-50 minutes asking about my experience, background, and technical knowledge. They gave me a scenario and asked me to write a test case. After that, I met another QA associate for 15 minutes of questions. Then met another person for 30-40 minutes, asking questions and explaining the work. The total interview time was 2 hours. I sent a thank you note, but it's been over 3 weeks with no communication. I understand not getting offers but a simple email would be courteous. Companies that don't respect candidate time likely don't respect employee time either.
- Can you tell me about your experience and background?
- What's your technical knowledge like?
- Given this scenario, please write a test case.
Utility Billing Manager
Applied online and got an email for an HR phone screen. It was mostly about the company and benefits, plus a high-level job overview. They wanted a follow-up Zoom interview, but first, I had to take an online pre-employment test, which was weird for a management role. They said it was for training assessment, not pass/fail. The test had timed math and word problems, plus Excel tasks (formulas, sorting, pivot tables). During the Zoom interview, the hiring manager seemed annoyed I logged in a minute early. The interview focused on the job details. No standard questions like conflict resolution or handling failed projects. Just "tell me about yourself." I talked about managing my remote team and keeping them motivated, but they seemed to discourage team interaction due to workload. The whole thing was an hour. I don't think it's a good fit, but I sent a thank-you email. No feedback was given, which is unprofessional. Proceed with caution.
- Could you tell me a little about yourself?
- Can you describe a situation where you had to resolve a conflict and how you did it?
- Tell me about a time a project didn't go as planned and how you handled it.
Chief Operating Officer
I spoke with the head of HR and was told that an immediate follow-up with the senior team members was going to happen. It's been almost two months, and I haven't heard back, even after I followed up myself. The original call was canceled, then rescheduled, and then started late, which was just the cherry on top.
- No questions of consequence were asked.
