First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Republic Services.
Supervisor
The internal recruiter spoke about the company and its culture. They mentioned I'd be contacted the next week. However, I never got any follow-up, nor a response to my email a week later. It seems dishonesty and lying are part of the company's culture.
- What sparked your interest in this role?
Supervisor
I was contacted by the recruiter via phone for a pre-screen, and she stayed late for me. She was thorough and asked standard questions about fitting in. She then set up an interview for the next morning with the floor managers. It was short notice, but I appreciated it. I researched the company and managers all night. The managers asked tough, real-world questions specific to the position. After that, I interviewed with my peers, which was unexpected. The Supervisor was honest and we related on past experiences. Finally, the director met with me, moving from general questions to specific scenarios. I also got a floor tour to wrap up. This was the best interview process I've ever seen. Every leader was honest and clear about expectations and the company's direction, including challenges and upcoming changes. They emphasized employee support. While waiting between interviews, employees introduced themselves and wished me luck. I even withdrew from another finalist position because I felt connected to the team, the environment was professional and inviting, and their branding was empowering.
- What are your strategies for leading change management initiatives?
- Describe how you would deliver difficult news or criticism to your direct reports.
- How do you adapt your leadership approach to fluctuating priorities?
Operations Manager
Had a hiring conference interview with HR. This was unexpected, and I actually interviewed for an Ops Supervisor role which I wouldn't have taken anyway. It was refreshing that she'd read my resume before I arrived. It was an easy first interview, followed by a pretty easy in-person interview with the Business Unit GM. Then, I had no fewer than 3 more phone interviews, likely because they wanted to put me at the top of the compensation bracket for the position.
- Can you describe your experience with safety protocols?
- How would you describe your leadership style when it comes to managing a team?
