General Manager
It's a long process with a few steps to really see if you're qualified and a good fit. First, a recruiter or HR person will chat with you to check the basics and see if you vibe with the company culture. Then, you'll meet with different department heads and team leads who will assess your technical skills, how you solve problems, and your experience. If you make it through, you'll have more detailed talks with senior execs, and the last step is an interview with the CEO. This way, they get a good look at you from different angles across the leadership team, so they can really evaluate your potential impact.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain your motivation for applying to this role?
General Manager
The interview process involved a phone call, a meeting with the HR manager, and finally a meeting with the division VP. It took a while to get through the stages, with responses taking 2-5 days between each one. The HR manager discussed what they were looking for, but when I asked about the typical workweek, they were evasive and mentioned working hours can vary, sometimes 16 hours, sometimes 8, depending on the workload. The VP seemed more focused on my connections in municipal or small business sectors that they could potentially acquire. It felt like another sales role, and a position with a lot of oversight. They didn't ask anything unusual, mainly gauging my sales abilities.
- How much experience do you have selling to government entities?
General Manager
The process began with a call from HR, followed by a phone screen. Initial in-person interviews happened at a conference. Even though I spoke with two people, they mentioned needing more interviews. They used another conference to interview me again instead of flying me out to their headquarters. After that, they still wanted one more interview, which was done online. A week later, I was informed I didn't get the job, with no specific reasons given.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a decision that wasn't popular?
