Got an email from the recruiter to set up a time to chat about the role. Then I interviewed with the VP of Government Affairs over Zoom, it was supposed to be a half hour but she was a little late. After that, the recruiter let me know they wanted me to come onsite to interview with the team. I sent my availability and waited for a confirmation. I was going out of town and had a packed schedule, so I followed up with the recruiter after a few days. She then told me they actually didn't want me to come in after all, and that Olivia decided to go with another candidate. I get that things change, but the lack of organization and communication was pretty bad.

This was a really rough interview process with a lot of red flags. The first call with HR was fine, but then the next phone interview was a no-show. We rescheduled, and the day of, the interviewer changed last minute, so we had to reschedule again. The actual interview finally happened, but the interviewer was 20 minutes late with no apology. After that, I was told to follow up in 2 weeks, but got ghosted for another 2 weeks. When they finally got back to me, they wanted me to talk to a third manager, who seemed nice but it felt like the role and company strategy were unclear. More ghosting, then they wanted me to talk to two more managers who weren't even related to the role. It was clear they were just keeping me hanging. I'd already scheduled 5 interviews (none in person) and they wanted two more. I asked HR where things stood, and they promised it was the last call. Luckily, I got another offer and took it, otherwise, I'm sure I'd still be interviewing. The whole thing spanned from September to November.

Technical Case

The interview process involved a phone screening, followed by a take-home test, and then an onsite interview. On the plus side, everyone was really friendly and helpful, and the interviews were organized well. The questions they asked were clearly thought out. All the interviewers were open about their ideas for the business and the company. On the downside, my interview was in November, and it took about 3 weeks to hear back after the onsite, which felt like a bit too long to wait for a decision.

I went to their office in Oakland for an in-person interview with HR. After that, I had a Skype interview with two people who were in Portland. They ended up hiring someone local in Portland because it made more sense, given that's where most of their tech is developed and they were looking for a technical project manager.
