First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Remote Year.
Program Leader
The interview process had about 4 stages. First, an HR call about my relevant experience, lasting 20-30 minutes and was pretty basic. Then, a 45-minute to 1-hour Zoom call with a current program leader or manager. We discussed the day-to-day job, with lots of scenario questions like "How would you draw the line between personal and professional in XYZ situation?". Round 3 was with someone more senior, maybe the cultural director overseeing global staff. This interview focused on working with international staff, conflict resolution, and time management to avoid burnout, lasting about 45 minutes. The final round was a project. They sent over questions and tasks to create mock activities, presentations, and scenarios, which took a few hours. After I submitted my work, there was a delay in hearing back. When I followed up, I was suggested to look into other roles, but never got a direct rejection, which felt a bit unprofessional. My last two follow-up emails went unanswered.
- How would you manage your time to prevent burnout? And how would you navigate the line of personal and professional?

Program Leader
It started with a short 20-minute call with HR to discuss the role and expectations. They mainly asked about my salary needs and any scheduling conflicts, not giving much chance for my questions. Next, I spoke with the Program head, who asked basic questions like what I like about Remote Year, how I found them, past travel struggles, and my group travel experience. The final round was with the VP of Culture, and we had a good conversation about my history in tourism. Each round was very brief and efficient, but I often wished I could ask more. The HR person set up each interview, but I had to follow up several times for the Zoom links, which felt a bit disorganized. However, the Remote Year team was great.
- Can you share your experience with group travel?
Program Leader
I had a few interviews, projects, and then in-person meetings. The whole thing took a bit, but People Ops kept me updated the whole way. I talked to at least 4 different people.
- How would you resolve a specific problem currently happening in the community?
